· Inputs: These are the facts, plans, needs, and concerns of the business as related to the on-going and future business activities.
· Focus: These are the areas of consideration regarding the IT Assets as they pertain to the governance function.
· Performance Measures: These are the metrics and briefings that are required to measure the success of the governance function, and are used for feedback into the oversight process.
Background
The IT Governance functions are performed by the Senior Business and Senior IT Management. They must deal with the IT capability to provide for the current and future requirements of a competitive business. They require metrics that relate to business processes and activities.
The oversight activities that are performed are for the "Good of the Business"

There are three areas of concern related to governance of IT Assets:
IT Goverance are those actions that pertain to the oversight of IT computing assets that are strategic to the business viability.

While most trade journals use the term IT Governace, their definition does not address the full needs of the organization. In many cases, the inputs, focus, and concerns of the stake holders is not addressed.

The IT Governace function pertains only to Senior Business Management and Senior IT Management, and generally is non-technical in nature. In fact, if it is technical, it probably belongs in the IT Assurance function.

Inputs
The inputs to the governance function come from many sources and will change over time. The following table shows the input areas and sources relating to governance:

The governance function is concerned with the well being of the business IT Assets as they are related to the business activities. The following table shows the focus areas of IT Governance:

Performance Measures
The final area of IT Governance is related to the Performance Measures that are required for the function. These are the metrics and briefings that are required to measure the success of the governance function. The Performance Measures are divided into three groups:
· Development: The metrics and briefings related to the development of IT assets.
· Conservancy: The metrics and briefings related to the use of the IT assets in regards to the business activities.
· Busines Value: The metrics that are used to assess the value of the IT Assets in regard to the business.
