RG Solutions® Data Formation

RG Solutions® processing creates information based on a hierarchy data model and business requirements. Since the data model is based on a Software Oriented Architecture, the data formation must be able to identify and process different types of data for different types of analytics.

The Data Formation processing for RG Solutions.

The product senses the source of information and determines the target of the data within the Resource Catalog. Initial analysis of the data source determines if all dependent data sources are present for the target resource. If they are not, the processing is rescheduled until all data is present.

If the data is present, the product performs the required data formation task. At the end of the task processing, further analysis is performed to determine if any other data or resources need to be updated based on the newly formed data. If so, then these processes are started in a prioritized manner that ensures the integrity of the data formation process. In this manner, it is possible that a single low level import could result in several updates being performed that may affect several different resources.

The capabilities of the Data Formation are: Customizable, Rule Based, Automatic Calculations, and Workload Reformation.

Customizable

The data formation process is customizable for any business or IT processing environment. For a provided platform, the customization is done with a series of tables containing “rules” for data formation. These tables are similar in format to a spreadsheet and are easily maintained by the user.
For any business, the information that is most important is not going to be general in nature. For this reason, the product supports a Companion Data interface. This interface allows for the customized importing of external data (in virtually any format) into the product’s data model. Companion Data can be reported on, shared, and/or integrated with other companion or native data.

Rule Based

The rule based processing for the data formation allows for the codification of business behavior into business centric data. Based on the context of the processing, the rules allow for the formation of new data (i.e. workloads from native data), or the merging of data into new data forms (i.e. the folding of workloads into other workloads).

For Companion Data, it is possible to establish rule based data formation. This allows for a more logical evolution of the user’s data over a period of time, and the fusing of that data with other data to form new business oriented metrics.

Automatic Calculations

During data formation, the product will create many metrics related to the sharing of resources. These metrics can be used indirectly for reference, analysis, forecasting or some other purpose. These metrics can also be provided to the end the user (originator) in the form of a Bill of IT, or as part of a Chargeback / Showback system.

Whether externally used or not, shared resource calculations are always done and are available when needed.

Workload Reformation

RG Solutions® data formation requires that it will only get low level information for its data input. In this manner the product can form the data as needed and that will be based on the business requirements.  Indeed, the workload formation process is extremely powerful and is done so without requiring any special external data preparation. It also introduces stability to the process in that external inputs are primitive in nature and do not require constant format changes or modifications.

Since the workload processing is done within the product, it allows for a Workload Reformation capability. That is to say, it is possible to reform workloads based on a revised or different set of rules. This capability allows for effective workload formation, evolution, and historical change without the need to modify collecting agents or other sources.
